The Manage Fields Window

Configure the fields and related settings for every supported Channel entity.

Manage Fields is the Channel-level control center for the information attached to your work. Pick an entity in the left rail — Ideas, Scripts, Calendar Events, Thumbnail Projects, Video Reviews — and its field list fills the panel beside it.

Open Manage Fields

Right-click the active Channel tab and choose Manage Fields, or use a Manage Fields action beside an entity's fields. The same window opens on the relevant entity when launched from a field surface.

One list per entity

Each entity has a single field list. The fields Bluprint ships with and the fields you create sit in it together, in one order, and that order is the order every editor for that entity uses.

Every row works the same way, whichever kind of field it is:

  • Rename it by clicking its name and typing. Press Tab to move to the next field's name, so renaming a run of fields takes one pass.
  • Reorder it by dragging the handle.
  • Open its settings by clicking its icon, which expands a panel underneath the row.
  • Hide it with the eye icon, or from its ⋯ menu.

Only Title is permanent. It stays at the top of every list and cannot be renamed away or hidden, because it is how a record is identified everywhere else in the app.

Hiding versus deleting

These are two different things, and the difference matters:

What happensReversible
Hide from ChannelThe field leaves this Channel's forms and drops into the Hidden section at the bottom of the list. Saved values are untouched.Yes — Add back returns it, with its values.
DeleteThe field definition itself is destroyed. Only available for fields your team created.Through undo and the Recycle Bin.

Hiding is the safe option and is available on every field except Title. Because a hidden field leaves the list entirely, the order you see is always the order in use — nothing sits in the middle of it greyed out.

Channel-level hiding is different from Hide in this view in the Idea Catalog's column menu, which changes only the view you are looking at.

Fields you create

A field your team adds can do everything above, plus:

  • Duplicate it, or move it to another Channel.
  • Delete it, with an impact check and undo.
  • Open its Advanced settings, where the per-type options live.

Use New field to create one, and the search box to find a field in a long list. Each field belongs to the entity selected when it was created: a Video Review field appears under Meta & Fields, a Thumbnail Project field in its Fields panel.

Options live on the field that uses them

Statuses, priorities, categories and calendar event types are not separate pages. They are the options of a particular field, and you edit them by expanding that field's row:

FieldEntityWhat you edit there
StatusIdeasThe stages an Idea moves through
PriorityIdeasThe priority scale, lowest to highest
CategoriesIdeasThe reusable labels available to Ideas
Event TypeCalendar EventsHow events are classified and colored

Inside the panel, each option is a row you can rename inline, recolor with its swatch, drag to reorder, or delete. Add option creates one; if you have deleted an option Bluprint ships with, Restore offers it back.

The Event Type field expanded to show its options with colors and the default role.

Deleting an option

Deleting an option asks where the records using it should go, and tells you how many there are. Nothing is stranded: the records move to the option you pick before the old one disappears.

Roles

A few options have a job that the rest of Bluprint depends on. Those jobs are roles, and you assign them from an option's ⋯ menu under Use as:

RoleOnWhat it does
Default for new ideasStatusWhere every new Idea starts
PublishedStatusSet automatically when a linked video goes live on YouTube
ArchivedStatusSet by archive actions; archived Ideas drop off dashboards and boards
Default for new eventsEvent TypeWhat a new Calendar Event starts as

Because these are roles rather than fixed options, you can rename Published to Live, or point the Archived role at a stage you invented, and everything that writes it follows.

Leaving Published or Archived unassigned is a real answer: a Channel with no Archived status simply stops offering the archive action. The two default roles are the exception — a new record has to start somewhere, so one option always holds them, and an unassigned one falls to the first option in the list.

Idea templates

The Ideas entity has a second tab, Templates: reusable starting points for new Ideas. These are not fields, which is why they sit beside the field list rather than in it.

Permissions and safe changes

Channel management permission controls which fields are on, what order the list uses, and how the options on built-in fields are configured. A separate field permission controls creating, editing, moving, and deleting the fields your team adds.
