Extend Ideas with Custom Fields

Create Channel-specific fields so every Idea can track the details your workflow actually needs.

Custom fields let you add your own structured details to every Idea in a Channel.

Use them for information that matters to your workflow but is not covered by the base Idea fields. Examples include sponsor, hook, target keyword, editor, filming location, trend source, priority score, guest, or approval status.

Where custom fields appear

Custom fields show up in two main places:

  • The Idea catalog table view, where they work like extra columns.
  • The Idea window editor on the Overview tab, under Custom Fields.

Go to the Channel where the field should exist. The field will apply to Ideas in this Channel.

  2. Open Manage Fields

Right-click the active Channel tab and choose Manage Fields. You can also open Manage Fields from the Channel menu in the top bar or from the Idea catalog view menu.

  5. Set options if needed

For select-style fields, add the options your team should choose from. Keep option names short and consistent.

Update and reorder fields

Open Manage Fields again whenever you need to adjust the Channel.

From the Custom Fields page, you can:

  • Search custom fields.
  • Drag fields to reorder them.
  • Edit a field's name or configuration.
  • Delete fields you no longer need.

The order you set here affects how custom fields appear for Ideas in the Channel.

Fill in custom field values

After a custom field exists, fill it in from either the catalog or the Idea window.

  1. Use the table view for fast editing

Open the Idea catalog table view and update custom fields directly in the row for each Idea.

  2. Use the Overview tab for focused editing

Open an Idea, go to Overview, and scroll to Custom Fields. This is useful when you are already editing the Idea's title, description, status, categories, priority, assignee, or release platforms.

Common mistakes

Creating fields before you have real Ideas

Add a few real Ideas first. It is much easier to design useful fields after you see what information you keep tracking manually.

Using text when a select field would be cleaner

If the values repeat, use Single Select or Multi Select. This keeps filtering, sorting, and scanning cleaner than slightly different text entries.

Expecting one Channel's fields to show up everywhere

Custom fields are Channel-specific. If another Channel needs the same field, create it there too.

Next step

Once you have a few useful custom fields, use them in saved views, filters, and table layouts so each Channel shows the details your team needs most.
