Schedule filming and release dates

Plan production dates, create Calendar Events, use master and Channel calendars, and link events to Ideas.

Bluprint calendars help you turn Ideas into a real production schedule. Use Calendar Events for filming days, release dates, edit deadlines, brainstorm sessions, reminders, meetings, and anything else that needs a place on the calendar.

The most useful habit is simple: schedule the event, choose the right event type, and link it back to the Idea it supports.

Master calendar vs Channel calendar

Bluprint has two calendar scopes:

CalendarWhat it showsBest for
Master calendarEvents across the Bluprint, including Channel events and Bluprint-level eventsSeeing the full production schedule across Channels
Channel content calendarEvents scoped to the selected ChannelPlanning one content stream without clutter from the others

Create a Calendar Event

  1. Open the right calendar

Open the master calendar if the event affects the whole Bluprint. Open a Channel's content calendar if the event belongs to a specific Channel.

  2. Choose a date

Hover over a day and use the button, or select a time range on the calendar. You can also use the Create menu and choose Calendar Event.

  3. Add the event title

Use a clear title like Film studio tour, Release: Desk setup video, or Sponsor review deadline.

The New Calendar Event modal with the title field filled in.
  4. Choose an event type

Select an event type such as Filming, Release, Editing, Planning, Reminder, or a custom event type your Channel uses.

The Event Type dropdown in the New Calendar Event modal.
  5. Set the date and time

Set Start, End, and All day as needed. Release events are best used as single scheduled dates, while filming or editing blocks often need a start and end time.

The Start, End, and All day controls in the Calendar Event modal.
  6. Add helpful details

Add a description, recurrence, attendees, location, Channel, and reminders if the event needs them.

  7. Create the event

Select Create Event. The event appears on the calendar and can be opened later for edits.

Linking keeps the schedule connected to the work it represents.

  1. Open the event

Click an event to quick edit it, or open the full event editor.

  2. Select Link idea

Use Link idea in the event editor header or quick edit popover.

  3. Choose the Idea

Search for the Idea and select it. Once linked, the event shows the Idea chip so you can jump back to the Idea when needed.

Use custom event types

Default event types cover common production work, but Channels can also have custom Calendar Event Types.

Custom types are useful for events like:

  • Guest Recording
  • Brand Review
  • Voiceover
  • Thumbnail Review
  • Livestream
  • Community Post

Create or manage them from Manage Fields in this Channel under Calendar Event Types. You can also create a new custom event type from the event type dropdown after a Channel is selected.

Build a reliable filming and release workflow

For a normal video, a simple sequence might look like this:

EventEvent typeLinked to Idea?
Research and outlinePlanningYes
Film A-rollFilmingYes
Edit rough cutEditingYes
Thumbnail reviewCustom event typeYes
Publish videoReleaseYes

This gives the team a schedule they can trust without needing to jump between Google Calendar, spreadsheets, notes, and chat.

Common mistakes

Scheduling everything only on the master calendar

If an event belongs to a specific Channel, scope it to that Channel. The master calendar can still show Channel events, but Channel calendars stay focused.

Forgetting to link events to Ideas

Standalone events are fine for meetings and reminders. Production events are usually more useful when they link back to the Idea they support.

Using one event type for every deadline

Event types make the calendar easier to scan. Use Filming for shoot blocks, Release for publish dates, and custom event types for Channel-specific workflow steps.

Next step

Pick one real Idea and schedule its next three dates: the next production step, the filming day, and the release date. Link each event back to the Idea so the plan stays connected.
