The Idea Window

Idea Window Overview

Learn what the Idea Window is, how to open it, and how the Overview tab organizes base and custom fields.

The Idea Window is the focused workspace for one Idea. Anytime you open an Idea from the catalog, calendar, search, or a linked item, this is the window that appears.

The Idea Window open on the Overview tab.

The tabs across the top keep everything connected to the Idea in one place: Overview, Events, Thumbnails, Scripts, and Tasks.

Overview Tab

The Overview tab starts with the base Idea fields. These are the standard fields every Idea can use: Title, Description, Status, Categories, Priority, Assigned To, and Release Platforms.

Base fields can be hidden for the entire Channel from Manage Fields -> Base Idea Fields. Hiding a base field removes it from that Channel's Idea Window and catalog field surfaces; it does not delete the underlying Idea.

Below the base fields, the Overview tab shows the Channel's custom fields. Custom fields live on every Idea in that Channel. Entering a value here only sets the value for this one Idea.

To add, edit, reorder, or delete custom fields, open Manage Fields. For a deeper setup guide, see Extend Ideas with Custom Fields.

Field Menus

Each field has a small dropdown next to its label.

Base fields can be hidden from the Channel. Custom fields can be edited or deleted, because they are user-created fields managed by the Channel.

Idea Actions

The context menu in the header contains actions for the whole Idea: duplicate, apply a template, make a template from the Idea, move it to another Channel, pin it, print it, archive it, or delete it.
